About Atxarte

Holds for Climbers by a Climber
Atxarte Climbing llc started in 2007. The company is based out of Ogden, Utah a city located one hour North of Salt Lake City. The entire supply of holds are shaped and designed by artist/climber Anthony Chertudi. Anthony has created art during his entire life. He graduated from Weber State University in 2003 with a BFA (Bachelors in Fine Arts). His degree amalgamated an emphasis in Sculpting, Painting and Printmaking, and graduated from his student body as the Outstanding Graduate from the Department of Visual Arts. In addition to art, Anthony has had a long climbing career that began in 1992. Anthony is well traveled and innovative in his climbing. His travels range from the perfect limestone sport routes of Europe, to the outstanding bouldering of the Rock Lands in South Africa. His climbing accomplishments include his first 5.13d in 1997, since then many 5.14 routes, and v13 boulder problems. Anthony has used supreme aesthetics with fresh design in his hold making to create an exciting and stimulating climbing experience.
What does Atxarte Mean?
Atxarte - a place of rocks, or rocky area, in the Basque Language(the Basque language is an ancient language rooted in the Magdalenian culture predating Latin with no roots or links to any other language). Anthony's father is from the Basque Country of Spain located in the Western Pyrenee Mountains of Northern Spain and Southern France. Atxarte is also a famous rock climbing region 20 minutes from Kortezubi where the Chertudi's originated (where there are prehistoric caves, bones, and DNA linking the local villagers to the cave-dwellers of the magdalenian era) – suffice it to say that climbing and rocks are a part of the local culture and have been for millenia.
